Luke 6:12
Jesus teaches us the path to walk. Jesus sets the example we must follow. To be a follower of Christ is to get to know Jesus in order to walk, talk, see, and feel like Jesus does.
One of the ways Jesus showed us how to be in close relationship with God is by prayer. By talking and listening to God. By having a close intimate conversation with God. How else then can we come into communion with God if we don’t spend time with God?
Jesus departs from the world to give God his exclusive attention. Jesus sets a separate time and place dedicated just for God. Is this not what Holy means? That which is set apart for God? So by departing for prayer Jesus is physically showing that God is holy.
And Jesus was so in communion with God that time was irrelevant. Regardless of the time of the night, how long prayer might last, or how tired Jesus might have felt, Jesus was dedicated to being with God the Father. Are we there in our lives and prayer habits?
Jesus came to the world to lead us back to God. How else can we be united with God if we don’t follow Jesus’ way? If we are Christians we need to set time for God as Jesus did. If we are to be in communion with God we need to constantly be in prayer with God. To be able to be led by God and brought closer to God. Let us be always vigilant in prayer and move closer to God day by day.
Are we truly ready to welcome Jesus when he appears to us in our daily lives?
Do we understand that by acknowledging Jesus with our lives we enter into the heavenly space?
