Faithful in Prayer

Scripture Reflections for the Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Year C, Lectionary 147

Our faith in God affects our prayers. If we approach God in prayer without recognizing God's supremacy then we begin to disengage in prayer. With a strong trust in God we can rely on God for strength and nourishment even with trouble around us. And when we are weary we can also rely on our fellow sisters and brothers in Christ to lift us up physically and spiritually. For faith empowers us individually and as a community.

“If you see lots of darkness and sin and falling away from the faith, what do we do? Do we lose heart, right? Do we give up? Jesus says, 'no.' Your response to apostasy should be to pray constantly and not to lose heart, not to give up. To persevere in prayer.”

“Sometimes we get frustrated with God in prayer because we are praying for a specific resolution that isn't the best resolution. Perhaps God's resolution might cost us a little more but it might be better for humanity or it might be better for me in the long run.”
