Receiving the child, not the wicked

Scripture Reflections for the Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Year B, Lectionary 134

The wicked within us wants to attack God, refuse to welcome God and others into our lives and instead focus on our aggrandizement. Jesus is telling us, however, that the way to God is humility. To focus less on ourselves and our desires and more on the care for the 'children,' the marginalized in our society. Let us not get stuck arguing about our egos but rather let us try to understand and follow Jesus as he shows us the way of ultimate humility: the cross.
