Scripture Reflections for the Fourth Sunday of Lent

Year A, Lectionary 31

The readings for this Sunday aren't primarily about blindness. They are about SEEING as God sees. Yes, to not remain in darkness but more about having Jesus as our light source in order to see the world anew as God sees. Only then can we be transformed in our daily lives as we interact with one another.

“So what's Jesus talking about here? He's teaching us the difference between true sight and true blindness. See, the Pharisees think that true blindness is physical blindness but Jesus is revealing here that true blindness is the inability to see that he has come from God and that he is in fact the savior of the world.”

Brant Pitre in "Jesus Heals the Blind Man"

“If we see we are responsible. We can no longer claim ignorance.”

Sr. Nicole Trahan, FMI

“we got enough evidence in history, amen, to see that when we do not pull together but try and pull each other apart we never benefit from that. Society has never grown from our turning in on ourselves.”

Fr. Oscar Pratt

“As we look at ourselves now, if we were to see with the eyes of God perhaps with equal parts generosity and judgment, what would we see? Are we living according to God's desire and vision for us?”

Dr. Rachel Bundang

“God looks at the heart and when he sees us he sees himself. Do we have the nerve, do we have the courage, do we have the commitment, do we have the wisdom, do we have the guts to see that way with everybody and everything that God sends our way?”

Fr. Rayford Emmons
Mar 27 ʼ22

“with eyes of faith we realize that our Lord is glorified even on the cross”

Fr. Addisalem Mekonnen

“sometimes we don't notice the light around us. Nor do we notice the light that's inside of us. We're so quick to see what's wrong with ourselves and our world. Do we ever thank God for what is so good?”
